Atlantic Plastic Recycling (APR) is a proudly Cheetham family owned and operated business, which began its operations in 1989. What initially began as a scrap metal trading company, evolved and developed into a successful plastics collection and recycling business, with its’ success based on trusting long-term customer and supplier relationships, technology investments for efficiency, R&D and recycling expertise for innovative recycled polymer development, all underpinned by a quality-focused mindset.

We are committed to being a world class recycled plastic polymer manufacturer and we are passionate about growing the plastic recycling industry and removing plastic waste from the South African environment.

In line with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy vision, members of the South Africa Plastics Pact (SAPP) will work together so plastic never becomes waste or pollution in South Africa. The SA Plastics Pact is a positive platform to stimulate innovation, dialogue and collaboration to unlock barriers to circularity, to create new business models and generate job opportunities. APR is proud to be one of only 3 recycling members of the SAPP, supporting innovation for the growth of recycled content in packaging applications.

APR is proud to be one of the founding members of the South Africa Plastics Recycling Organisation which represents the plastics re-processors in South Africa. The Organisation is funded by its members and assists recyclers in building a recycling industry that is respected and acknowledged by government, industry and the public.

APR Affiliations

These affiliations enable us to enhance our recycling capacity, contribute to circular economy goals, and support the responsible use and reuse of plastic materials. By working with industry leaders, APR continues to drive positive change in reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.

CropLife SA already has a well-structured empty container management system with collectors and recyclers that have been vetted and approved as reliable and ethical operators. All CropLife SA approved service providers issue farmers with a Certificate of Adequate Disposal that export producers require for their Global.G.A.P. certification. More than 76% of empty containers are collected and recycled through the effective services of the 110+ CropLife SA approved collectors and recyclers. APR is proud to be an approved Crop Life SA recycler that is able to issue a destruction of stock and recycling certificate.

Polyco PRO NPC is a non-profit company focused on making waste a valuable resource that works for the South African economy. Its aim is to grow the collection and recycling of plastic packaging in South Africa, to promote the responsible use and reuse of this plastic packaging and to end plastic waste in the environment. APR is proud to be a recipient of Polyco investment funding to grow their recycling capacity, to be able to support Polyco in the achievement of the legislated EPR targets.

Petco is a Producer Responsibility Organisation(PRO) trusted by its members and the collection and recycling industry to drive change across the packaging value chain on a journey to help lead South Africa to a circular economy. APR, through its collection of PET, is proudly affiliated with Petco in the achievement of its collection targets.
